— Jam band Twiddle has the honor of being the first act to return to the subterranean stage at The Caverns, 555 Charlie Roberts Road in Pelham, Tennessee. — Evening of Poetry: Award-winning author KB Ballentine will visit Soddy-Daisy Community Library on Thursday for a reading, discussion and book-signing starting at 7 p.m. Copies of her latest work, "Edge of the Echo," are available for purchase at the library. Ballentine lives in Chattanooga and teaches creative writing, theater arts and literature to high school and college students. Her visit is part of the library's Elevating Literacy Program. — Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd., will celebrate its grand reopening Friday with free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum has been closed during the pandemic, but workers were busy redesigning the displays "to tell the true story of African Americans in Chattanooga," a history that ranges from Native Americans and slavery to modern-day events. Officials say the museum offers a new experience with its reimagined collection of artifacts, interactive kiosks and videos. A ribbon-cutting will kick off the celebration, and Kofi Mawuko will play African drums throughout the day. bessiesmithcc.org
— Freedom Fest: One of the earliest Fourth of July celebrations in the area is set for Saturday in Rainsville, Alabama. Arts and crafts vendors, musical entertainment and a car, truck and motorcycle show are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Field of Dreams Sports Complex, 100 Rodeo Lane. Kids activities, including inflatables, a climbing wall and mechanical bull, will open at 2 p.m. Alabama native John Stone, a fixture on Nashville's Broadway music scene, will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will cap off the day at 9 p.m. (all times Central). rainsvillefreedomfest.com
