Many Independence Day celebrations will have taken place by Sunday, but at least 10 locations will be celebrating America's 245th birthday on July 4.

Fun and fireworks
— Dalton, Ga.: Pool and splash pad open at noon; children's pageants, old-timers softball game, adult softball tournament, cornhole and disc golf competitions, eating contests, wrestling matches and music throughout the day at Heritage Point Park, 1275 Cross Plains Trail. Fireworks at dark.
— Ringgold, Ga.: Independence Day Bash at The Barn on Beaumont, 94 N. Beaumont Road, features music by The Hasbeens, 6-10 p.m. Bring your own seating. Fireworks at dark.
— Scottsboro, Ala.: Concert by the Jess Goggans Band at 6 p.m. at Goose Pond Colony, 417 Ed Hembree Drive, with fireworks at 9 p.m. (all times Central). Free admission.
— Sewanee, Tenn.: Arts and crafts fair starts at 9 a.m.; parade on University Avenue at 2 p.m., with airplane rides and an airshow following (all times Central); plus a dog show, cake decorating contest and music during the day. Fireworks at dark; $1 donation requested.
Fun without fireworks:
— Chattanooga: Red, White and Blue Day is noon-4 p.m. at Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St. Guests will participate in several patriotic-themed crafts and activities before the fireworks alternative: a 21-Diet Coke geyser salute at 3 p.m. A party on the plaza follows with cake and ice cream. Timed tickets ($15.95) are required for entry; purchase at cdmfun.org/tickets. Active-duty military members and veterans can get in free; call 423-648-6052.
— Chattanooga: Fun on the 4th, a new community celebration, is set for 5-10 p.m. in Miller Park and Miller Plaza, at Market Street and M.L. King Boulevard. It includes live music on two stages (local acts plus a Beach Boys tribute band), art vendors, a vintage market, vintage cars, food trucks and a 10-minute laser show at 9:50 p.m. Free admission.
' Lakesite: Residents will gather for their annual barbecue at 5:30 p.m. at City Park, 2250 Blue Ridge Drive. The city provides barbecue and drinks; residents supply the sides.
QUICK LOOK AT THE WEEK
— Signal Mountain barbecue: Independence Day events led by the Signal Mountain Lions Club will take place Monday at Althaus Park, 809 James Blvd. After drive-thru-only service last year, the Lions will provide barbecue meals for sit-down dining between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (or until they sell out). Bulk sales of pork, beans and slaw also will be available. Other concessions include hamburgers, hot dogs and funnel cakes. The Signal Mountain Middle/High School Leos organization will offer desserts in a bake sale. A neighborhood patriotic parade will start the day at 9 a.m. There will be no fireworks this year.
— "Black Widow" at Imax: The Tennessee Aquarium's Imax Theater, 201 Chestnut St., will screen Marvel Studios' new superhero movie on the biggest, brightest screen in town in a first-run premiere at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a day before the future blockbuster will be available to rent on the Disney+ streaming platform. Scarlett Johansson stars as the superspy Natasha "Black Widow" Romanoff. Tickets are $15, with discounts for Aquarium or Imax Club members. The film will be screened daily at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. through July 17 (plus 3:45 p.m. July 9-10).
