SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (31 January to 6 Feb):

Baihakki Khaizan hangs up boots after 18-year career

Former Singapore international defender Baihakki Khaizan has announced his retirement from football, after an 18-year career which saw the 38-year-old helping the Lions to clinch three ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship titles.

Baihakki made his professional debut in 2003 with S-League club Geylang United, after being part of the pioneer batch of the now-defunct National Football Academy in 2000. He earned his first international cap in that same year, during a friendly match with Hong Kong at Jalan Besar Stadium, and was named S-League Young Player of the Year in the same season.

It was the first of 140 caps for the centre-back, who was a key presence in the Lions' AFF Championship triumphs in 2004, 2007 and 2012. His stoppage-time goal in the first leg of the 2012 final against Thailand proved crucial in the eventual 3-2 aggregate victory.

Baihakki was also part of the LionsXII team which won the Malaysia Super League in 2013. Besides featuring for local clubs Geylang, Warriors FC and Tampines Rovers, he also played professional football in Malaysia (with Johor Darul Ta'zim), Indonesia (with Persija Jakarta, Persib Bandung and Medan Chiefs) and Thailand (with Muangthong United, Udon Thani FC, Trat FC and Prachuap FC).

He will next take up the role of lead (special projects) and ambassador at the Football Association of Singapore, spearheading projects that aim to further elevate football in Singapore.

Emma Raducanu says she enjoyed stay in Singapore

British tennis star Emma Raducanu took to social media to promise that she will return to Singapore following her brief stay in the country after her Australian Open debut.

The reigning US Open champion posted on Friday (4 February), "Singapore!! We worked, got stuck in (literally..), enjoyed the great culture, improved and had so much fun here. Thank you to everyone's warm welcome, you made it even more special. I'll be back!!"

Her post also included photos of her taking in the sights of Singapore, such as the Merlion Park, Haji Lane and ION Orchard.

The 19-year-old was spotted at Singapore's Tanglin Club putting in training sessions with local players. Fans were spotted around the tennis courts as they tried to get a glimpse of Raducanu in training.

National footballer Siti Rosnani Azman in loan move to KIU Charme

Singapore national women's footballer Siti Rosnani Azman has signed a loan deal with Kibi International University (KIU) Charme, which play in Japan's third-tier Nadeshiko League Division 2, as she bids to reignite her professional career in Japan.

The Straits Times reported that Siti - who is the second Singaporean women's footballer to turn pro - had struggled since joining top-tier Women Empowerment League club Kobe Leonessa last September. She did not feature for the club as she suffered a left gluteus maximus muscle injury, and struggled to adapt to the new cultural environment.

Siti subsequently requested a loan move in search of playing opportunities, and had a trial with KIU Charme in December which went well. Her loan deal will be until June.
