Weeks-long wait for Sacramento-area funeral services as COVID-19 related deaths increase

Data released this week shows California has more than 30,000 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began nearly a year ago. As the numbers increase, so does the demand for the funeral industry. “We’re all very overwhelmed,” said Ginger Brown, owner of Sacramento’s Thompson Rose Chapel. Brown explained they’ve had to reduce staff and hours all while handling an increase of calls for funeral services. “Once the hospitals are overwhelmed, then it kind of trickles down to the funeral homes. So, when we receive a death call and we need to come out, times are exceeded,” she said. See more in the video above.
