Weeks into the schoolyear busing issues continue in Jefferson Twp.

It’s been a bumpy road for back to school busing at several local school districts.

Jefferson Township Schools have been in session for just a few weeks, but the principal at Blair Wood Elementary School said that busing issues are still a concern.

Anne Watson, principal at Blairwood Elementary said it’s a waiting game of when things will be done correctly.

“At the beginning of the school year, we had probably about 90 percent of our students [who] did not have busing. So it was kind of a back and forth issue with us and for our students trying to figure out what was going on,” Watson said.

Watson said for days the district worked with First Student, who provides their busing, to figure out a solution, that’s when they realized what happened.

“As we talked to First Student, we found out that it was a glitch in their system that kind of wiped everybody out,” she said.

Academic Instructional Coach Lee Porter said that when when there are transportation issues, education can suffer the consequences.

“That’s our number one priority getting the kids here, get them in the classroom. Having our teachers be able to start instructions, bell to bell,” Potter said.

Watson said there are still at least ten students who need busing problems fixed, but hopes they will be fixed by the end of the week.
