Wegmans will be closed on Christmas Day. But don't panic — other stores are open
It comes but once a year: Wegmans will be closed for 36 hours straight, from 6 p.m. Christmas Eve to 6 a.m. Dec. 26.
Other local grocery stores will follow similar schedules, and a few also will be closed New Year’s Day. But other retailers that sell food, medication and essentials will be open Christmas and New Year’s.
Here are holiday hours for Wegmans, Tops and other grocery stores and several chain drugstores:
Wegmans holiday hours
Wegmans stores will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, be closed Christmas Day and reopen at 6 a.m. Dec. 26. They will close at 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve and reopen at 6 a.m. Jan. 1.
Tops holiday hours
Tops stores will close at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, be closed Christmas Day and reopen at 6 a.m. (or at their normal opening time) Dec. 26. They will close at 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve and reopen at 6 a.m. (or at their normal opening time) New Year’s Day.
ALDI holiday hours
ALDI stores are closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Operations are limited on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and hours vary by location. Go to stores.aldi.us for information on specific stores.
Trader Joe's holiday hours
Trader Joe's stores will close at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Costco holiday hours
Costco stores will be open until 5 p.m. Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. They will be open until 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and be closed New Year’s Day.
Price Rite holiday hours
Price Rite stores will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, be closed Christmas Day, and reopen at 8 a.m. Dec. 26. They will be open until 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and reopen at 8 a.m. New Year’s Day.
Walmart holiday hours
Walmart locations, whose Supercenters include full-service grocery stores, will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. Stores will be open during normal hours (6 a.m. to 11 p.m. in most cases) on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Local store hours are listed at walmart.com/store-directory/ny.
CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid holiday hours
Most, but not all, major chain pharmacies that sell food items — largely of the canned, frozen and prepared variety — and other necessities are open on holidays, including Christmas.
Many CVS Pharmacy locations will be open during regular hours Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. However, some stores may be closed or have reduced hours. CVS recommends that people call their local stores before visiting or check hours of operation at cvs.com.
Walgreens stores will be open during normal hours on Christmas Eve. Most stores will be open on Christmas Day, at least from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. And stores will be open during normal hours New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Pharmacy holiday hours will vary by location, so people should call before going or check store hours at walgreens.com.
Most Rite Aid stores will be open Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Many will be open Christmas Day, but operations will vary by location, so people should call their local stores in advance or go to riteaid.com.
