Wegmans to reopen Amore restaurant at East Avenue store on Friday
Wegmans will reopen Amore Italian Restaurant & Lounge, inside its store at 1750 East Ave. in Rochester, at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. Wegmans promises a new look and a new menu featuring classic and Mediterranean-style dishes.
The restaurant has been closed temporarily since early in the coronavirus pandemic.
Wegmans opened Amore in 2013, when it used the restaurant to showcase Wegmans branded products. In 2015, Wegmans hired Chef Pasquale Sorrentino, a veteran of local restaurants Restaurant 2 Vine and Branca. He revamped the menu to include house made pasta and fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Sorrentino, who continues as chef, started cooking as a teenager in his hometown of Torre del Greco, Naples. After high school, he worked in kitchens in Tuscany and Barcelona, Spain. He met his wife, a native of Webster, while she was studying abroad. They moved to Rochester in 2003.
Located in Wegmans’ East Avenue store, Amore’s is open 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call (585) 452-8780 for reservations.
