Wehner’s Thriftway in Silver Lake closing

SILVER LAKE (KSNT) – A supermarket that has served the community of Silver Lake since 1969 is closing.

On Wednesday, Wehner’s Thriftway announced that it would be closing its location in Silver Lake. Store management said the announcement on social media was a preliminary release and a closure date has yet to be set.

“It is with mixed emotions and a sense of profound gratitude that we write to you today,” the Facebook announcement read. “The Wehner family has had the honor of being part of the grocery business since 1915 and, more specifically, serving the Silver Lake community since 1969. The journey has been filled with cherished memories, dedicated service, and the warmth of community bonds.”

Wehner’s Thriftway is contracted with another entity that plans to purchase the building. Until the contract is finalized, the store will remain open, according to the press release.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your patronage over the years,” the post said. “Your support has been the driving force behind our decades of service, and it is truly appreciated.”

Store management said the other Wehner’s Thriftway location in Rossville wasn’t at risk of closure.
