'Weird Al' Yankovic coming to Canton Palace Theatre on May 17

CANTON – "Weird Al" Yankovic will perform on May 17 at the Canton Palace Theatre.

Known for his song parodies and humor, Yankovic has announced "The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour."

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Dec. 10 for the Canton show and other stops on the tour. Ticket prices for the Palace Theatre concert are $99.50, $75, $55 and $42.50.

Opening Yankovic's shows will be his longtime friend and fellow "UHF" movie

cast member, comedian Emo Philips.

Yankovic is the biggest-selling comedy recording artist of all time. A five-time

Grammy winner, his 2014 release "Mandatory Fun" was the first comedy album in history to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200.

Yankovic's past hits include "Amish Paradise," a parody of "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio; "Eat It," a parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat It;" and "Like a Surgeon," a parody of Madonna's "Like a Virgin."

In 2018, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Yankovic with a star on

the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The tour starts on April 23 and continues through North America for six

months and a total of 133 shows, culminating on Oct. 29 with Yankovic's first-ever concert appearance at Carnegie Hall.

Yankovic last toured in 2019, when he performed each night alongside a full

symphony orchestra, including at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

"Rather than focusing on the hits from his career, the show will feature Yankovic’s non-parody material — the somewhat more obscure pastiches and original songs that have largely escaped the pop culture radar but are adored by his longtime fans," a tour press release said. "And like the last Vanity Tour, he will be playing smaller, more intimate venues, leaving behind the high-octane theatrics that he’s known for and going bare-bones — no costumes, no props, no video screens … just Al and his band of almost four decades hanging out on stage, playing music."
