“Weird Al” Yankovic is planning his return to Springfield.

Yankovic and his band will be in concert Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the UIS Performing Arts Center.

According to a release from the performing arts center, tickets for the comedic singer’s show will go on sale for the general public at 10 a.m. Friday.

The release also said pre-sale tickets will be available to Friends of UIS Performing Arts Center donors beginning Wednesday, followed by members of the Email Club on Thursday. To become a Friend call the UIS Ticket Office at (217) 206-6160. Ticket prices are $69, $59, and $49 and can be purchased at UISpac.com or by phone at (217) 206-6160.

Yankovic’s tour, named “The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour,” begins April 23. It will run for six months and total 133 shows.

“Once again drawing from his back catalogue of 14 studio albums, Weird Al promises to deliver a different set list every night, with no two shows the same. As before, rather than focusing on the hits from his career, the show will feature Yankovic’s non-parody material – the somewhat more obscure pastiches and original songs that have largely escaped the pop culture radar but are adored by his longtime fans,” the release said.

“And like the last Vanity Tour, he will be playing smaller, more intimate venues, leaving behind the high-octane theatrics that he’s known for and going bare-bones--no costumes, no props, no video screens … just Al and his band of almost four decades hanging out on stage, playing music.”

Yankovic, 61, has played in Springfield several times, including 2011 at the then-Prairie Capital Convention Center (now the Bank of Springfield Center) and in 2000 at UIS. He played the Illinois State Fair Grandstand in 2008.

Comedian Emo Philips will open for Yankovic.
