Welcome news in the tropics: 'No new tropical cyclones expected during next 5 days'

For the first time in what feels like months, there are no tropical disturbances showing on National Hurricane Center maps.

"No new tropical cyclones are expected during the next five days," was the message displayed by the center's latest advisory.

We've reached the end of the peak period of the Atlantic hurricane season. The peak period runs from mid-August to mid-October. The entire season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.

Currently, there are four tropical waves in the Atlantic basin being monitored by the Hurricane Center.

Tropical wave 1: An eastern Atlantic tropical wave is moving west at 6 mph.

Tropical wave 2: A central Atlantic tropical wave is moving west at 11 mph.

Tropical wave 3: An eastern Caribbean tropical wave is moving west at 11 mph.

Tropical wave 4: A central American tropical wave is moving west at 11 mph.

Who is likely to be impacted?

It's too early at this time to determine if there will be any impact to the U.S. from the tropical waves.

Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and to always be prepared during what's expected to be an active hurricane season.

Although the season has gotten off to a quiet start, the peak of the season is Sept. 10, with the most activity happening between mid-August and mid-October, according to the Hurricane Center.
