Well-known former Wichita radio personality files for personal and business bankruptcy

Former radio personality Brett Harris has filed for Chapter 7 personal and business bankruptcy through his KannaCorp LLC/KannaBliss and Century Plaza Partners LLC/KannaBliss.

Chapter 7 is a liquidation bankruptcy.

Harris filed the cases pro se, which means he filed on his own, without a lawyer.

According to three filings, he owes $22,500 in taxes, $156,025 in unsecured claims and $19,150 in student loans.

Not included in the filings is the more than $363,000 that Your CBD Stores Franchising this summer said Harris owes the company.

Harris didn’t return calls for comment, but he did reply to a text when asked how the bankruptcies may affect his three KannaBliss stores that are still in business.

“Kannabliss stores have been restructured, reorganized and refreshed to continue to partner and promote our dynamic Kansas farmers,” Harris wrote.

Earlier this year, Florida-based Your CBD Stores sued Harris, a former franchisee whose real name is Brett Buckwalter, in federal court over more than $363,000 the company said he owes.

“This is really just a dead issue,” Harris said at the time. “It’s gone away.”

A company representative declined to comment except to say it is still pursuing the case.

It’s not clear if this suit is in any way related to the bankruptcy filings.

According to the suit, the company terminated Harris’ agreements with the chain because his stores — he had three in the Wichita area at one point — sold products not approved by the chain.

Your CBD Stores initiated arbitration with Harris under what the lawsuit claims were the terms of the franchise agreement.

An arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association ruled in the company’s favor. According to the lawsuit, Harris has not paid anything yet, so the company filed suit in a collection attempt.

“It’s kind of sad to see this paperwork come across,” Harris said in August. “It’s an interesting tactic for a company that is really hemorrhaging.”

Harris said he hasn’t been a franchisee for two years and that he “compliantly closed the stores.”

He said he “pivoted into cannabis because it’s coming.”

Harris now operates KannaBliss stores at Maple and Ridge Road, the Shops at Tallgrass near 21st and Rock Road and a new one in Andover.

The only other thing Harris said in his text was, “Come visit the newest KannaBliss location in Andover.”
