POULSBO – The Elmer’s Restaurant location in the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center has announced that it will close in the coming weeks.

Signs headlined “WE’LL MISS YOU!” at the family dining favorite say that the business will shutter in March: “We are sad to announce that Poulsbo Elmer’s will be permanently closing as of Monday, March 7th. It has been our pleasure to serve the Poulsbo community for many years. We will miss you and hope you will continue to enjoy your favorite meals for years to come at Tacoma Elmer’s or any of our 23 other locations.”

A representative at the restaurant told the Kitsap Sun that the closure was a “corporate decision” and referred a reporter to the chain's home offices in Portland. Messages left with the company Thursday and Friday were not returned.

The restaurant site off Highway 305 was once home to Poulsbo favorite Mitzel’s American Kitchen. The eatery was destroyed in a fire in 2006 and was eventually replaced by a Taprock Northwest Grill location, which later shifted over to a Elmer’s location.
