Wellington man shot dead in argument over dog

Oct. 26—A Wellington man was shot Wednesday morning after he had allegedly attacked another man while in an altercation over a dog, officials say.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Office Lt. Falon Hurst said that around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, a 911 call had been placed from a landowner stating that he had shot a man that had attacked him on his property.

Upon arrival to the property at the 4000 block of Old Sulphur Springs Road in Wellington, first responders found that the man's neighbor, Thomas Farmer, 47, of Wellington, had died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Hurst said that the incident arose from an argument that ensued between the decedent and the landowner over a dog. That argument got heated which resulted in Farmer being shot and killed.

No charges have been placed on the landowner at this time as investigators continue to piece together what happened, Hurst said.
