WellNow opens Ravenna urgent care; Streetsboro location set to open this month

A second urgent care has opened its doors in Ravenna, the first of the WellNow private chain's facilities planned for Portage County.

WellNow Urgent Care opened Wednesday at 951 E. Main St. in Ravenna, the former site of a GetGo gas station. The facility is located in front of Giant Eagle and next to Chipotle.

The Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting earlier in the week.

The company also plans a location in Streetsboro, at the site of a vacant Big Boy restaurant on state Route 14, set to open Oct. 26, according to the company's website.

WellNow was the second urgent care to open in Ravenna last month. QuickMed began operations Sept. 5 on South Chestnut Street.

WellNow will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days per week, offering treatment for injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening, as well as COVID-19 PCR testing and occupational medicine services. Patients can walk in or schedule a visit online.

“Injuries and illnesses show up at the most inconvenient times, including evenings and weekends,” Dr. John Radford, president of WellNow Urgent Care, said in a press release. “Whether you have a sick child on a Sunday afternoon or the sudden need for a COVID-19 PCR test with 24-hour results, we’re proud to be a trusted destination to provide the care that patients need, when they need it, rather than sitting for hours in an emergency room or delaying care.”

The company touts its services as an alternative to traditional emergency rooms, saying patients can find shorter wait times and lower costs to treat ailments such as sprains, burns, colds and allergies and provide X-rays, lab testing and physicals. Occupational medicine services, such as Workers’ Compensation assistance, employment physicals, and drug and alcohol testing, also are available.

Results of COVID-19 PCR are returned within 48 hours or sooner, and details can be found at the company's website. WellNow also offers a Virtual Care platform 24/7.

Streetsboro's planning commission approved plans for that city's 4,250-square-foot building in December 2021. Mike Gilbert of Development Management Group told the commission there is room on the 1.7-acre site for another development in the future.

WellNow was founded in 2011 to provide walk-in urgent care, according to the company's website, and now has more than 180 clinics in seven states, including Ohio.
