‘You were the best in town’: Kansas City area pizza place closes months after opening

Pomodoro Pizza Napoletana has closed after less than a year at the Liberty Commons shopping center.

“It is with a heavy heart that we’re announcing the closure of our business,” Pomodoro’s owners announced Saturday evening on Facebook. “We are thankful for our loyal clients, and we are sorry to close on such short notice. The past year would not have been possible without you. Thank you!”

Owners Roberto Timotei and Samantha Herretes opened the Neapolitan-style pizzeria in September. They were not immediately available for comment on Monday.

Pomodoro sought to be “a taste of Naples,” offering pies cooked in a 6,000-pound Acunto pizza oven made with bricks from around Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Options included the Margherita Montanara (prosciutto, arugula, cherry tomatoes) and the Kilauea (pineapple, ham, mushrooms), both made with San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and sea salt.

Customers wished them well on Facebook Sunday.

“Omg can I get one last pie?? You were the best in town,” one wrote.

“I’m so sad,” said another. “Our favorite Liberty restaurant. We loved going here. They were so nice to us. You will be missed.”
