These were some of Greater Lansing's top standouts at track and field regionals
Several individuals won regional titles and secured their spots at the Michigan High School Athletic Association track and field state finals hosted by the Grand Rapids region June 4.
Here is a look at some of the top performances by individuals from Greater Lansing during regional meets.
BOYS
Parks Allen, Ithaca
The junior distance standout was part of first-place finishes in both his individual events and a relay for the Yellowjackets. He had his second-fastest time in the 1,600-meter run, finishing in 4:30.80 while taking the title. Allen won the 3,200 in 9:53.31 and contributed to winning Ithaca’s 3,200 relay.
Cavanaugh Barker, Carson City-Crystal
The senior won all three of his individual events and was part of a runner-up relay while helping the Eagles win a Division 4 regional Saturday. Barker won the 110 hurdles in 15.64 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 41.46 seconds and cleared 5-feet, 9 inches while winning the high jump. Barker contributed to a runner-up 1,600 relay for the Eagles.
Zane Forist, Carson City-Crystal
The senior and Michigan signee won regional titles in the shot put and discus to play a part in the Eagles’ regional championship. He had a throw of 65-0.25 to win the shot put and won the discus in 190-2.
Kellen Reed, Holt
The senior standout was a major component to the Rams capturing a regional championship. He was first in all four of his events, setting personal records in two. Reed set a personal record while winning the 100 in 10.6 seconds, had a personal-best time of 21.87 while winning the 200 and won the long jump with a jump of 22-9. Reed also anchored Holt’s winning 400 relay.
Corey Schafer, Pewamo-Westphalia
The senior was part of three first-place finishes while helping the Pirates win a Division 3 regional title Thursday. Schafer swept the hurdles events, taking the 110 title in 15.26 seconds. He had a personal-best time of 40.15 seconds while winning the 300 hurdles. Schafer was also part of P-W winning 400 relay and runner-up 800 relay.
Connor Williamson, Mason
The senior won both the shot put and discus to help the Bulldogs capture a Division 2 regional title Friday. He improved his personal-best by 10 feet while winning the title in the discus with a throw of 170-0. Williamson won the shot put with a throw of 53-0.
GIRLS
Lani Bloom, Ithaca
The senior and Purdue-bound runner was a triple individual winner and helped the Yellowjackets to a team runner-up finish at a Division 3 regional Friday. Bloom won the 800 in 2:18.22, the 1,600 with a season-best time of 5:04.77 and the 3,200 in 11:18.28. Bloom also was part of the Yellowjackets winning 3,200 relay that had a time of 9:44.72.
Riley Gill, Mason
The sophomore set personal records in a pair of events while winning a pair of regional titles. Gill had a time of 15.76 seconds while winning the 100 hurdles and 47.65 seconds while winning the 300 hurdles. Her efforts helped the Bulldog win a Division 2 team regional title.
Comari Hawkins, East Lansing
The senior helped the Trojans capture a Division 1 regional championship on Friday. Hawkins had her second-fastest time of the season while winning the 200, finishing in 25.38 seconds. She won the 400 in 56.83 seconds.
Sarah Litz, Fowlerville
The senior was a triple winner at Friday’s Division 2 regional at Williamston. She won the 100 hurdles in 16.66 seconds, the 300 hurdles with a season-best time of 48.61 and was part of Fowlerville’s winning 800 relay that had a time of 1:50.44.
Rylee Tolson, Stockbridge
The senior distance standout won a pair of individual events at a Division 3 regional Thursday. Tolson had a season-best time of 5:04.70 while winning the 1,600 run and won the 3,200 run with a time of 11:18.3.
