West Branch High to stage "Frozen Jr."

The main cast of West Branch High School's production of "Frozen Jr." includes Haley Close (Elsa), Alli Kanagy (Anna), Gavin Clay (Hans), Regan Daley (middle Elsa), Croesus Brock (Olaf), Lily Scofinsky (middle Anna), Wyatt Courtwright (Kristoff), Christian Mikol (Pabbie), Mason Brown (Oaken), Owen Hoopes (Weselton), Front L-R Sutton Clay (young Anna), Claire Bloss (young Elsa), Morgan Brown (Bulda), and Croesus Brock as Olaf.

The arrival of the “Frozen” musical on Broadway has only enhanced the furor over the Disney show that is based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen in 1844.

West Branch High School will stage a version of the Broadway show this week, Friday through Sunday at the school. Shows will be 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday.

“Frozen Jr.”is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, which was based on the 2013 motion picture. The musical brings Elsa, Anna and the magical land of Arendelle to life live on stage. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, “Frozen Jr.”expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood and true love.

Starring as Princess Anna is freshman Alli Kanagy. Playing Anna’s sister Queen Elsa is junior Haley Close. As Anna and Elsa’s younger versions are fifth-graders Sutton Clay and Claire Bloss, sixth-grader Regan Daley and seventh-grader Lily Scofinsky.

Senior Wyatt Courtwright plays Kristoff, and freshman Mollie McDorman portrays Kristoff’s fun-loving reindeer sidekick Sven. Two-faced Prince Hans is played by Gavin Clay, and senior Owen Hoopes plays Weselton. Senior Morgan Brown plays fun-loving Bulda while also serving as student director for the production.

Playing Bulda’s wise counterpart Pabbie is junior Christian Mikol. Eighth-grader Mason Brown plays the funny and lovable Oaken.

Technical direction for the show was done by Eric Waggoner, Aaron Brown and Corey Clay. Stage manager is Adam Corallo. The set was designed and produced by Joe Courtwright, and all artistic elements were created by Kevin Hoopes. Promotional pictures and posters were created by Terry Dunlap of Dunlap Photography.

Reserved tickets can be purchased at wbmusic.org or in person at the door. The cast also is offering an add-on ticket to a character luncheon for $7 for all ages. The luncheon will include lunch, character meet-and-greets with photo opportunities, and other special magical activities. Cost are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students.
