West central Minnesota reports 94 new COVID-19 cases in Thursday's report; no deaths

Mar. 18—WILLMAR — There were 94 new cases of COVID-19 overall and no deaths reported Thursday in the 11-county area tracked by the West Central Tribune. That compares to 52 cases the previous day.

Stearns County reported 46 new cases overall in Thursday's report; Kandiyohi County reported 11 new cases; Renville County reported eight new cases; Chippewa and Yellow Medicine counties each reported seven new cases; Meeker and Swift counties each reported four new cases; Pope County reported three new cases; Big Stone and Redwood counties each reported two new cases.

Lac qui Parle County did not report any new cases.

Statewide there were six deaths and 1,505 new cases for a cumulative total of 501,458.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 38,602 of them have been among health care workers.

The state's current total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is now at 6,762. Most of the deaths, 4,244, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,606 of the people who died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

Big Stone County: 532 cases; 4 deaths

Chippewa County: 1,401 cases; 35 deaths

Kandiyohi County: 5,918 cases; 78 deaths

Lac qui Parle County: 702 cases; 17 deaths

Meeker County: 2,112 cases; 34 deaths

*

Pope County: 861 cases; 6 deaths

Redwood County: 1,498 cases; 34 deaths

*

Renville County: 1,561 cases; 41 deaths

Stearns County: 19,170 cases; 208 deaths

*

Swift County: 904 cases; 18 deaths

Yellow Medicine County: 1,000 cases; 17 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. The vaccine is not yet available to the general public but is being provided to targeted groups.

As of Thursday's report, 1,303,210 people have received one dose and 764,275 have completed the vaccine series statewide.
