West Deptford Sees 2nd Coronavirus Death This Week

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — An 86-year-old West Deptford woman has died after testing positive for the coronavirus, Gloucester County officials announced on Saturday. She is the 19th West Deptford resident to die after testing positive for the coronavirus, and second in less than a week.

On Wednesday, officials announced that an 83-year-old man had died after testing positive for the coronavirus. It had been the first virus-related fatality in West Deptford since July. Read more here: West Deptford Sees 1st Coronavirus Death Since July

She was one of two new coronavirus deaths reported in Gloucester County on Saturday. A 74-year-old Monroe Township woman has also died after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 258 Gloucester County residents have died after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The county also announced 135 new cases on Saturday, bringing the county’s total to 8,248 since the beginning of the pandemic. Trace investigations are underway in all new cases.

Seven of the new cases involved West Deptford residents. The following information is known about the West Deptford cases:

  • A 49-year-old woman;

  • A 65-year-old man;

  • A 75-year-old woman;

  • A 47-year-old man;

  • A 25-year-old man;

  • A 30-year-old woman; and

  • A 45-year-old woman.

As of Saturday, 471 West Deptford residents had tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 19 have died. Gloucester County has conducted 88,926 total tests. Of these cases, 80,678 have come back negative.

Gloucester County is expecting the number of cases to increase. Officials remind residents that social distancing is critical in flattening the curve and reducing cases.
