West Des Moines police identify two people found dead Wednesday of apparent murder-suicide

Two people found dead Wednesday in a West Des Moines home died by murder-suicide, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South 100th Street to conduct a welfare check at a residence around 10 a.m. Wednesday. There, police discovered the bodies of Dana Fortugno, 52, and Justine Fortugno, 59.

"Through the course of a detailed investigation, detectives have determined this unfortunate incident to be a murder-suicide that took place inside the residence," Sgt. Jason Heintz, spokesperson for the West Des Moines Police Department, wrote in a news release.

Dana Fortugno and Justine Fortugno are listed as owners of the home in which they were found dead, according to Dallas County Assessor records.
