Jun. 22—THOMASVILLE — Thomasville businessman Chris West will meet incumbent U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop in November to represent Georgia's 2nd District.

West edged Jeremy Hunt in Tuesday's runoff for the Republican nomination, winning by fewer than 800 votes.

"After our win last night, we are headed to November to flip this seat and bring real representation to southwest and middle Georgia," West said in an emailed statement to supporters. "I am incredibly humbled and grateful to the voters of the 2nd Congressional District for making this huge win possible."

West got 51.3% of the 28,461 votes cast across the district, which spans 30 counties.

West garnered 2,568 votes in Thomas County to Hunt's 1,269. West received 1,028 votes in Grady County to Hunt's 646.
