The fire that killed a man in a car in West Hartford this month was accidental, police said Tuesday.

Stephen Pelletier, 66, from Hartford died in the Feb. 3 car fire, police said.

The fire started shortly before 4 a.m. in a car parked at 46 Kane St. An officer on patrol noticed the car fire but couldn’t see in to determine if anyone was inside. The officer called in the fire to get fire trucks rolling and broke the window but was driven back by heat and smoke.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and discovered the body, police said.

Police did not say what kind of accident sparked the fire. Check back for more information.
