Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Perry County

Perry County – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at approximately 05:21 p.m. Sunday. The crash occurred on Ohio 37 at the intersection of 668 in Jackson Township.

Rose Spangler, 25, of Junction City was operating a 2017 Chevrolet Trax traveling eastbound on Ohio 37 while Jonathan Spangler, 20, of Junction City was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling the same direction on the same road. Dennis Hewitt, 56 of West Jefferson, was operating a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle westbound on Ohio 37.

Rose Spangler failed to stop when traffic slowed and struck Jonathan Spangler in the left rear. His vehicle crossed the center line and struck Hewitt head-on.

Hewitt was pronounced deceased at the scene and Rose Spangler sustained minor injuries.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by New Lexington Fire Department, Junction City Fire Department, Community Ambulance Service and the Perry County Coroners Office.
