West Lafayette declares city machine as surplus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The West Lafayette Board of Public Works and Safety approved declaring a 2000 Case 621 CXT Payloader as surplus at Tuesday morning's meeting.

In addition to the payloader — a equipment machine used in construction to move or load materials such as soil and debris — other items, multiple miscellaneous storage containers, were also declared surplus. While the containers are not worth anything, according to Street Commissioner Ben Anderson, the payloader will be put up for sale.

"We're going to list the case loader on GovDeals," Anderson said, "to try to sell it."

GovDeals is a "liquidity services marketplace," for governmental and educational agencies to sell surplus items.

Tiny Purchases agreement

A review of the IT Department's "IT Purchasing Policy for Tiny Purchases" was approved by the board as well.

This review allows the policy the following:

  • The IT Director may purchase any item for the IT Department or for any department within the City of West Lafayette at any time up to and including a cost of $9,999.99 without authorization.

  • IIT Administrators may purchase any operational supplies deemed necessary to support the IT Department or any department within the City of West Lafayette within approval and authorization of the IT Director.

  • IIT Administrators may purchase any emergency supplies necessary in a break/fix situation without prior authorization.

Chris Benavidez, director of technology, stated that this is a policy that has been previously in place, but due to his new position as director, the policy was reviewed and is effective as of Jan. 1, 2023. According to Benavidez, no changes were made to the policy.
