Zeeland West splits with Zeeland East

Zeeland East finished a continuation game against Zeeland West on Thursday, defeating the Dux on an 11th inning walk-off hit by pitch to win 5-4.

Trevor Raade records the win for Zeeland East.  Raade took the mound to begin the 8th inning and held the Dux scoreless through the 11th.  In the four innings of work, Raade struck out five and didn't allow a hit.

Offensively, Max Cochran and Jace Fenlon each had multiple hits in the game.  In the 11th inning, the Chix took advantage of a Max Salas lead-off walk, and a Dux error on a sac bunt on the next play.  After Zeeland West intentionally loaded the bases to set up a force, Austin Keur was hit by a pitch for an RBI to win the game.

In game three of the series, Zeeland West won on a walk-off passed ball in the bottom of the 8th inning to win by a score of 6-5.

Raade continued his work on the mound pitching three scoreless innings before Zeeland West finally struck for two runs in the 4th innings.  Jake Meyering and Nick Williams pitched in relief for Zeeland East.  Brenston Brown, Austin Keur and Max Cochran each had two hits in the game for Zeeland East.  Max Cochran had a solo home-run in the 4th inning to give the Chix an early 2-0 lead.

Zeeland West bounced back and scored three runs in the 4th inning and two more in the 6th to take a 5-2 lead into the top of the 7th.  Zeeland East responded with doubles by Austin Keur and Charlie Lacny to tie the game at five.  In the bottom of the 8th inning, Zeeland West loaded the bases on a single and two walks with two outs before a wild pitch allowed the winning run to score.

Zeeland East moves to 18-9 on the season and travels to West Ottawa on Friday for a double-header.

Mona Shores 4, Holland 1

The Holland Dutch fought a close battle with the Mona Shore Sailors but were unable to close the gap. Timely hitting by the Sailors plated one in the first and three in the second inning with two outs, which was all they needed. The Dutch were able to steal a run on a first-and-third play in the sixth.

Senior Zach Hop battled for yet another tough loss in what may have been his best outing of the season, pitching a complete game and allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking one.

At the plate, Senior Jackson Van Hekken led the Dutch with two hits. Carson Van Hekken and Andon Grigg had hits as well, with Grigg scoring the lone run.

The Dutch fall to 12-12 on the season and 9-9 in the OK Conference. They visit Northview on Friday, May 20 for a single, non-conference game.

"We had a wonderful Senior Day that was full of emotion and gratitude.  Our senior class has been instrumental to the growth of our program," said coach Mark Behnke.   "We got good pitching from Kianna Vork in game one and the offense came alive cranking out 15 runs on 15 hits.   In game two, Madie Jamrog had a season-high strikeout total of 15 while only allowing one hit.  Offensively, we continue to grow and that was on display today.  Every senior had at least one hit on the evening and senior Megan Williams hit for the cycle in today's doubleheader [combined between the two games]."

Holland will travel to Grand Rapids Union on Monday for the finale of the Conference Tournament.
