Wesley Davis, who has many ties to the Ozarks, will be the next superintendent of the West Plains school district.

He is the assistant superintendent this year and will replace Lori Wilson, who resigned to take the assistant superintendent and chief financial officer job in Ozark.

Davis, who has worked in Cabool since 2015, will start the new role July 1.

He was originally hired as principal of the West Plains Middle School. Since 2018, Davis has served as assistant superintendent plus director of human resources and student services.

In a news release, board president Jim Thompson said Davis was the most qualified to serve in the district's top job. It was unclear how many individuals applied.

“Dr. Davis has demonstrated a strong commitment to the district over the last seven years," Thompson said, in the release. "He is devoted to our vision, and the appointment of Dr. Davis as superintendent will provide a smooth transition and optimum stability for our schools."

He has a bachelor's, master's and specialist degree from Missouri State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from St. Louis University.

In 1997, Davis started his career as a business and technology teacher at Buffalo High School.

He was named principal of Greenfield High School in 1999 and superintendent of the Greenfield district in 2002.

In 2003, Davis became the superintendent in Cabool and remained there until he took the West Plains job in 2015.

He has also been an adjunct professor at Southwest Baptist University.

Davis and wife Stacy have three children, Justin, Cody and Michael.
