The West Salem Brew Coffee & Tap House has closed after almost four years in the space.

Owners Cathy and Mitch Teal announced the closure of the combined cafe and taphouse on the business' Facebook page. They cited familial obligations, including caring for their twins and parents, for closing the location.

"Part of the issue was that having a business takes up a ton of time and extremely difficult, especially with finding staff and needing more that pushed us on that road," Mitch said. "It's been hard with our family and we need more time for family things."

Their location in Independence remains open.

"Simplifying our lives was a necessary move," they wrote. "We have made so many friends at our West Salem Brew location over the past 3 1/2 years, so this move is very bittersweet."

The location served coffee, cocktails, beer, cider and an array of snacks. It also had spacious, dog-friendly outdoor seating and unique speakeasy interior décor.

In the same post, the Teals announced there will be a new local family taking over the space and "running with what (the Teals) have started."

The Teals said the space will be turned over at the end of October.
