West Texas high school Top Performers, Aug. 29-Sept. 3

Here are some of the top performances in West Texas high school athletics for competition from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3, 2022:

➤ Kyle Abilez, Christoval: The junior clocked a time of 17:44.38 over a 5K course to finish fifth in the boys division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet and then completed 9-of-11 passes for 94 yards and TD as the Cougars beat Grape Creek in a 2A-3A nondistrict football game.

➤ Alex Alcantar, Lake View: The senior left guard helped the Chiefs compile 331 rushing yards and four rushing TDs in a 39-25 win over Sweetwater in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Kamrynn Baethge, Harper: The senior setter had 59 assists, six kills and seven digs in two nondistrict volleyball matches for the Ladyhorns, who improved to 20-5 for the season.

➤ Aiden Beck, Bronte: The senior had five carries for 56 yards, eight tackles and a fumble recovery for a TD in a Class 1A nondistrict football game against Rule.

➤ Jesus Betancourt, San Saba: The senior defensive tackle had nine tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one hurry and a fumble recovery as the Armadillos beat Junction 18-6 in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Hayven Book, Miles: The junior quarterback hit 21-of-35 passes for 271 yards and five TDs and ran for a TD in the Bulldogs’ 40-21 win over Sterling City in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Tyree Brawley, Central: The junior running back carried 22 times for 122 yards and two TDs as the Bobcats beat El Paso Montwood 52-49 in a Class 6A nondistrict football game.

➤ Aidan Bryant, Winters: The junior wide receiver caught five passes for 81 yards and a TD as the Blizzards were victorious in overtime 18-12 on the road against Eldorado 18-12 in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Jaime Buitron, Sonora: The junior quarterback passed for 99 yards and rushed for 151 yards and three TDs in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game against Coahoma.

➤ Cayden Carpenter, Christoval: The senior wide receiver/defensive back scored on a TD run and caught three passes for 84 yards and a TD as the Cougars beat Grape Creek 30-10 in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game.

➤ John Cepeda, Lake View: The senior left tackle helped the Chiefs compile 331 rushing yards and four rushing TDs in a 39-25 win over Sweetwater in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Rylie Clements, Cornerstone: The senior outside hitter had 21 kills, three aces, three blocks and 12 digs in a five-set nondistrict volleyball match against Water Valley.

➤ Trevin Coffell, Irion County: The senior spreadback/linebacker completed 8-of-11 passes for 208 yards and five TDs, had 21 tackles and an interception returned 65 yards for a TD as the Hornets beat Spur 83-36 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Preston Dehlinger, Garden City: The sophomore running back/defensive end rushed seven times for 96 yards and TD and had three tackles as the Bearkats beat Menard 54-8 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Lupita Diaz, Lake View: The senior first-year runner clocked 15:07.0 over two miles to finish in 11th place in the girls division at the Eric Stinson Invitational cross country meet at Comanche Trail Park in Big Spring.

➤ Michael Duran, Lake View: The junior defensive back had two interceptions, including a pick-six, as the Chiefs beat Sweetwater 39-25 in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Addyson Easterwood, Brady: The senior clocked a time of 13:27.0 over two miles to finish in 26th place at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Carson Ellison, Miles: The senior wide receiver caught seven passes for 64 yards and three TDs as Miles beat Sterling City 40-21 in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Sean Estes, Rochelle: The senior fullback/linebacker had five tackles, a fumble recovery and caught four passes for 80 yards and two TDs as the Hornets beat Nueces Canyon 70-20 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Brittany Evans, Harper: The senior libero had 42 digs, three aces and one assist in two nondistrict volleyball matches for the Ladyhorns, who improved to 20-5 for the season.

➤ Max Everett, Ozona: The senior wide receiver caught three passes for 50 yards and a TD in Class 2A nondistrict football game against Wink.

➤ Saul Flores, Reagan County: The junior clocked a time of 18:18.6 over a 5K course to finish 12th in the Class 6A Division I boys race at the Crane Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Hudson Fowler, Ozona: The sophomore quarterback passed for 138 yards and three TDs in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Wink.

➤ Matilda Galvan, Ballinger: The sophomore clocked a time of 12:56.47 over a 3.2K course to finish seventh in the girls division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet as the Lady Bearcats won third place in the team standings.

➤ Daniel Gamez, Lake View: The junior right guard helped the Chiefs compile 331 rushing yards and four rushing TDs in a 39-25 win over Sweetwater in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Jessica Garcia, Eldorado: The senior clocked a time of 20:38.3 over 5K – her first attempt at the longer distance -- to finish in second place in the Class 6A Division I girls race at the Crane Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Dylan Gidney, Wall: The junior lineman had eight solo tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and six QB hurries in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game against Cisco.

➤ Daisy Gonzales, TLCA: The junior middle hitter had two blocks, 14 kills and 25 digs as she helped the Lady Eagles rally from being down 2-1 in the match before beating Coahoma in nondistrict volleyball.

➤ Ethan Gonzales, San Saba: The junior running back rushed 17 times for 109 yards and a TD as the Armadillos beat Junction 18-6 in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Sterling Gray, Lake View: The junior was the top finisher for the Chiefs at the Eric Stinson Invitational cross country meet in Big Spring, running a personal-best time of 18:46.0 over the hilly three-mile Comanche Trail Park course.

➤ Sam Griffin, Eldorado: The senior defensive lineman had 14 tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Winters.

➤ Merek Howell, Rochelle: The sophomore spreadback rushed seven times for 114 yards, completed 10-of-12 passes for 240 yards and five TDs, returned a kickoff 71 yards for a TD, had four tackles and an interception as the Hornets beat Nueces Canyon 70-20 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Jordan Harrison, Irion County: The senior running back/linebacker rushed 14 times for 197 yards and three TDs and had 19 tackles as the Hornets beat Spur 83-36 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ John Hayes, Lake View: The senior right tackle helped the Chiefs compile 331 rushing yards and four rushing TDs in a 39-25 win over Sweetwater in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Jose Heredia, Robert Lee: The sophomore running back/linebacker carried three times for 15 yards, had eight tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery as the Steers beat Sands 36-28 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Tyler Hill, Central: The senior quarterback had 13 carries for 176 yards and three TDs, completed 11-of-15 passes for 142 yards and a TD as the Bobcats beat El Paso Montwood 52-49 in a Class 6A nondistrict football game.

➤ Cason Jacoby, Mason: The senior defensive end had five solo tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss as the Puncher defense held the Bulldogs to just 150 total yards in a 27-7 win over Brady in a 2A-3A nondistrict football game. Jacoby also kicked three PATs.

➤ Austin Johnson, Central: The senior free safety returned a blocked punt 31 yards for a T, had a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery as the Bobcats beat El Paso Montwood 52-49 in a Class 6A nondistrict football game.

➤ Ketcher Joiner, Christoval: The senior running back rushed 17 times for 112 yards and a TD as the Cougars beat Grape Creek 30-10 in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game.

➤ Kinsley Jordan, Mason: The senior clocked a time of 12:59.94 over a 3.2K course to finish ninth in the girls division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Tony Kmiec, Eldorado: The junior middle linebacker had nine tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Winters.

➤ Cole Knight, Bronte: The sophomore had 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in a Class 1A nondistrict football game against Rule.

➤ Anthony Landeros, Robert Lee: The sophomore running back/defensive back had eight carries for 74 yards and two TDs, four tackles and an interception as the Steers beat Sands 36-28 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Keith Latch, Garden City: The junior running back/defensive back caught two passes for two TDs and had 1.5 tackles as the Bearkats beat Menard 54-8 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Garrett Long, Water Valley: The junior linebacker had seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and forced fumble in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Hamlin.

➤ Justin Lopez, Rochelle: The senior fullback/linebacker had eight tackles and caught three passes for 58 yards and two TDs as the Hornets beat Nueces Canyon 70-20 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Nevaeh Lott, Brady: The junior middle blocker had seven kills in a nondistrict volleyball match for the Lady Bulldogs.

➤ Ryan Mendoza, Robert Lee: The senior lineman caught a 32-yard TD pass, had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery as the Steers beat Sands 36-28 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Chase Miller, Central: The senior place kicker nailed an 18-yard field goal with 30 seconds left on the clock in the Bobcats’ 52-49 win over El Paso Montwood in a Class 6A nondistrict football game.

➤ Faith Miller, Lake View: The senior clocked a time of 14:49.0 over two miles to finish in eighth place in the girls division at the Eric Stinson Invitational cross country meet at Comanche Trail Park in Big Spring.

➤ Kenadee Millican, Christoval: The sophomore clocked a time of 12:34.46 over a 3.2K course to finish third in the girls division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet and lead the Lady Cougars to a first-place finish in the team standings.

➤ Talli Millican, Harper: The senior outside hitter had 28 kills, 15 digs, 10 blocks and one ace in two nondistrict volleyball matches for the Ladyhorns, who improved to 20-5 for the season.

➤ Teegan Minjarez, Bronte: The senior had 21 carries for 137 yards and two TDs, one reception for 20 yards, 11 tackles, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in a Class 1A nondistrict football game against Rule.

➤ Johnny Monreal, Sterling City: The junior running back/strong safety had 83 rushing yards and two TDs, 47 receiving yards, and kicked three PATs in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Miles.

➤ Makenna Moreland, Brady: The junior setter had four aces from the service line in a nondistrict volleyball match for the Lady Bulldogs.

➤ Bo Morrow, Irion County: The senior wide receiver/defensive back caught five passes for 141 yards and four TDs, covered a fumble in the endzone for a TD, and had 10 tackles as the Hornets beat Spur 83-36 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Hunter O’Banon, Sonora: The senior running back rushed 16 times for 77 yards and caught two passes for 65 yards and a TD in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game against Coahoma.

➤ Neviah Oviedo, TLCA: The senior setter had 19 assists and four total aces, including three in the final six points of a fifth-set rally to help the Lady Eagles beat Coahoma in a nondistrict volleyball match.

➤ Sloane Paugh, Wall: The sophomore outside hitter had 21 kills, two aces, two blocks and 19 digs in two nondistrict volleyball match wins for the Lady Hawks.

➤ Nolan Park, Forsan: The senior lineman/kicker/punter helped the Buffaloes pile up 356 total yards, score five rushing TDs, was 3-of-5 in PAT attempts, 2-of-2 field goals with a long of 54, averaged 37.8 yards on four punts with a long of 59 and one inside the 20-yard line, and had two tackles for loss and a forced fumble as Forsan beat Post 41-15 in a Class 2A nondistrict football game.

➤ Ed Pettit, Veribest: The senior clocked a personal-best time of 16:56.12 over a 5K course to finish seventh in the boys division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Presley Polk, Christoval: The sophomore clocked a time of 12:46.68 over a 3.2K course to finish sixth in the girls division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet as the Lady Cougars won first place in the team standings.

➤ Garrett Porter, Eldorado: The senior linebacker had 10 tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Winters.

➤ Jacob Ramirez, Coleman: The junior clocked a time of 16:40.32 over a 5K course to finish fifth in the boys division at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Willie Rodriguez, Lake View: The senior center helped the Chiefs compile 331 rushing yards and four rushing TDs in a 39-25 win over Sweetwater in a Class 4A nondistrict football game.

➤ Logan Seidenberger, Garden City: The senior quarterback/defensive back completed 4-of-8 passes for 62 yards and four TDs with no interceptions, had 1.5 tackles and an interception as the Bearkats beat Menard 54-8 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Owen Seidenberger, Garden City: The senior lineman had four solo tackles and two tackles for loss and helped his team compile 333 total offensive yards as the Bearkats beat Menard 54-8 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Brayden Sherwood, Robert Lee: The junior running back/defensive back rushed for 150 yards and two TDs, completed two passes for 39 yards and a TD, had 14 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as the Steers beat Sands 36-28 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Dusty Smith, Ozona: The junior rushed 11 times for 108 yards and caught five passes for 78 yards and three TDs in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Wink.

➤ Jacob Soto, Wall: The sophomore clocked a personal-best time of 16:49.29 over a 5K course to finish sixth in the boys division and lead the Hawks to a second-place team finish at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet.

➤ Nino Tambunga, Eldorado: The senior wide receiver/defensive back returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, caught three passes for 54 yards and TD and had five tackles and one interception in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Winters.

➤ Ryne Todd, Mason: The junior running back/defensive back had 15 carries for 121 yards and one TD, six tackles, a 47-yard interception return to set up a TD, a forced fumble that was recovered in the endzone for a TD, a punt return for 29 yards, five punts for an average of 38 yards, and 197 all-purpose yards as Mason beat Brady 27-7 in a 2A-3A nondistrict football game.

➤ Ariel Vega, Cornerstone: The senior libero had 28 digs, two kills and was 98 % from the service line in a five-set nondistrict volleyball match against Water Valley.

➤ Mason Walker, Garden City: The senior tight end/defensive end rushed three times for 59 yards, caught three passes for 46 yards and three TDs, had five tackles and an interception as the Bearkats beat Menard 54-8 in a Class 1A nondistrict football game.

➤ Brylan White, Wall: The sophomore defensive end returned a fumble 45 yards for a TD and had four solo tackles and two tackles for loss in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game against Cisco.

➤ Boston Wiese, Water Valley: The freshman linebacker had six tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery in a Class 2A nondistrict football game against Hamlin.

➤ Jayce Williams, Christoval: The senior linebacker had 16 tackles as the Cougars beat Grape Creek 30-10 in a Class 2A-3A nondistrict football game.

➤ Corey Ybarra, Ozona: The sophomore clocked a time of 17:26.3 over a 5K course to finish in fifth place in the Class 6A Division I boys race at the Crane Invitational cross country meet.
