Westborough's Alan Nguyen wins 55-meter hurdles, long jump at MSTCA Speed Classic

Boys' indoor track

MSTCA Speed Classic: Westborough's Alan Nguyen won the 55-meter hurdles (7.73 seconds) and the long jump (21 feet, 7½ inches) in the Large School meet Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Nguyen's teammate Ben Verheijen (8.52) was fifth in the 55 hurdles, and Algonquin's Gavin Moran (8.59) and Miles Lipka (8.66) were sixth and eighth, respectively.

Shrewsbury's Matt Anderson (6.79) finished second to Lowell's Evan Imasogie (6.69) in the 55 dash. Worcester Tech's Michael Mireku (6.89) and Michael Gyimah (6.90) finished 5-6, and teammate Cyprian Ojatabu (6.92) was eighth.

Worcester Tech enjoyed an impressive performance at the Reggie, highlighted by placing first (1:34.98) and eighth (1:39.88) in the 800-meter relay. Shrewsbury (1:37.42) was fourth in the 4x200.

In the 1,600 relay, Shrewsbury (3:49.13) was sixth, followed by Worcester Tech's squads in seventh (3:55.01) and eighth (3:56.08).

South High's Prince Sonpon (37.01) won his heat in the 300 and placed third overall.

Gabirel Palomeque Jara of Worcester Tech took fourth in the 600 (1:28.86), with Shrewsbury's William Jiang (1:31:06) placing eighth.

Fitchburg's Stephen Bate (19-9½) was fifth in the long jump, and Worcester Tech's Christian Agyekum (19-7) placed sixth.

Girls' indoor track

MSTCA Speed Classic: Diamani Canuto of Leominster lowered her own school record in the 300, winning in 42.07, in the Large School meet at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Whitinsville Christian's Avery Glidden finished second in 42.90.

In the 55 dash, Whitinsville Christian's Kira Simoncini (7.48) was second and Burncoat's Awurabena Anane (7.70) fifth.

Westborough's Melinda Haagensen (9.03) came up 4 hundredths of a second short of victory in the 55 hurdles, behind Wellesley's Lillie Caiazzo.

Shrewsbury (4:34.51) placed third in the 1,600-meter relay, with Westborough (4:44.15) in fifth and Worcester Tech (4:45.13) sixth. In the 800 relay, Worcester Tech was sixth (1:55.99) and Algonquin (1:57.98) seventh.
