Westbrook truck driver killed in Old Lyme highway crash

Sep. 30—A 63-year-old Westbrook man was killed Friday afternoon when he was thrown from his truck in a highway crash in Old Lyme that shuttered lanes for hours, police said.

State police said that at about 1:37 p.m., Michael Finkeldey was traveling south on Interstate 95 near exit 71 when his Freightliner truck collided with the back of a truck driven by David Isola, 62, of Northford.

Police said Finkeldey's truck crossed into the right shoulder, struck a guard rail and rolled onto its passenger's side. Finkeldey was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Isola was not injured, police said.

The crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes between exits 71 and 70 for more than seven hours.

State police out of Troop F said the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call (860) 399-2100.
