WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County saw an increase in the number of active new coronavirus cases of 480 from Wednesday to Thursday.

At his Thursday news conference, County Executive George Latimer released numbers for Wednesday. He said he did not yet have Thursday's numbers from New York State, which were released about an hour later.

The total number of positive tests for the coronavirus was 69,661 for Thursday, up 959 from Wednesday's 68,702, which was up more than 770 from Tuesday.

The number of fatalities as of Thursday were 1,664 — up 3 from Wednesday.

Latimer said the county was expecting to see about an increase of 500 active cases. The number he gave for Wednesday was 8,162 active cases. Thursday's number which the state released was 8,642 — an increase of 480.

He said what we may be seeing was the spike from the Christmas holidays.

"It may continue over the next few days," Latimer said.
