Westchester's own Cluxatawney Henrietta signals an early spring

For its fifth year, the Alfred B. DelBello Muscoot Farm in Katonah celebrated Groundhog Day with a twist. The farm relies on one of its very own animals to predict the weather in a way that mirrors Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil.

Muscoot Farm manager Jonathon Benjamin held Cluxatawney Henrietta and her egg after removing her from her coop. Residents flocked to the farm Thursday for an EGG-citing morning as the weather-predicting chicken laid an egg signaling an early spring.

Children held Team Spring and Team Winter signs while waiting for the exciting news.

"Year after year, Muscoot Farm has built up the excitement of Groundhog Day by putting Cluxatawney Henrietta in the spotlight," said Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O'Connor. "And I’m thrilled that Westchester County Parks has its own weather-predicting chicken!"

"Muscoot Farm loves an homage to any animal and groundhogs are no exception," said Benjamin. "Since we don't have a groundhog at the farm, Cluxatawney Henrietta has accepted the challenge of being our resident weather-predicting animal."
