Westcott-Wilcox gives residents a high quality of life

Jun. 20—DANIELSON — Westcott-Wilcox Elderly Residential Housing Inc. provides a topnotch place for residents ages 62 and up to live.

It is fully licensed by the State of Connecticut. The residential home is also a member of the Connecticut Association of Residential Care Homes and LeadingAge, an organization that researches and advocates for aging service providers.

At Westcott- Wilcox, staff are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help residents with whatever they need.

"We are helping our residents to live as much of life as they can," said Donna Copeland, former director of Westcott- Wilcox. " We want them to enjoy every day."

Staff receive training consistently to make sure they provide excellent service to residents. They also participate in games to keep residents engaged. The senior living community is a one- level building with 11 rooms.

The facility provides a home- like atmosphere. Each room is furnished with a bed, dresser, side table, desk and a chair. In addition, each room has a half bath and large windows so residents can see the outdoors.

In addition, Westcott-Wilcox offers residents internet, cable, heat, electricity, sewer and water.

Laundry and housekeeping services are also provided.

Residents' health is kept top of mind, as they are fed three meals a day. Staff ensure that the dietary needs of each resident are met.

Family and friends of residents can easily visit them, as there is ample parking at Westcott- Wilcox, which is easily accessible. Furthermore, visitors will have an easy time getting to Westcott- Wilcox, as it is on the Northeast Connecticut Transit District Route and its location is easily accessible off the interstate.

There are many attractions within walking distance of Westcott- Wilcox in case residents want to get away. This includes the Killingly Public Library, a pharmacy, banks, churches and beauty salons.

The Westcott- Wilcox home has been providing quality services for more than 100 years. It was first incorporated in 1904. At that time, a group of men in the Town of Killingly used the endowments of Almira Westcott and Betsey Wilcox to establish a home for the aging.

The original house was owned by Westcott.

The current building for the Westcott- Wilcox home was built at 50 Capron Street in Danielson in 1963.

The Board of Directors and Corporators work to carry out the vision of the founders while being open to new ideas that will help Westcott-Wilcox grow.

" The goal of the members of the Board of Directors and Corporators is to continue to broaden the vision of its early founders by maintaining its uniqueness while being open to new ideas to enhance its growth," reads a statement on the Westcott- Wilcox website.

Copeland noted that the staff at Westcott-Wilcox cares deeply about the well- being of its residents.

" The residents are our family," she said.

Resident testimonials posted on the Westcott- Wilcox website show just how much residents enjoy living there.

" The people are the best," said Wally, a resident of Westcott- Wilcox.

Madeline, another resident at Westcott- Wilcox, has also enjoyed living there.

" There's a lot nearby and you have your own private place," she said.
