Western caps road weekend sweep with win at Edison

Jan. 21—MILAN — The Western Reserve boys basketball team completed a road weekend sweep, as it rallied past host Edison for a 51-45 non-league win Saturday night.

The Roughriders (8-7), who have won five of their last seven games since Dec. 29, trailed 34-30 through three quarters. They were also down six in the fourth quarter before surging past the Chargers (2-13) with a 21-11 scoring advantage to close out the win.

Chris Buchanan had yet another double-double for Western with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He averages 14.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

Freshman Chase Hipp scored nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter for the 'Riders, while Braxton Balog added nine points and five rebounds. Grant Bethard also added eight points, and Rhett Grose had seven points and seven rebounds.

Kayden Bourget scored a game-high 16 points for Edison, with Davin Wendt adding nine and Jack Brown with eight.

Western (5-5 Firelands Conference) will host South Central (8-7, 5-5) on Friday. Edison hosts Firelands in non-league play on Jan. 28.

KANSAS — The Eagles also capped a weekend sweep with Saturday's rout of the host Raiders in non-league play.

For Monroeville (9-6), Aidan Goodwin scored 12 points and Jimmy Clingman added 10 on a night where 10 different players found the scorebook.

Blake Schaub added eight points and Gabe Howell scored seven for the Eagles (7-3 FC), who host Div. III Associated Press No. 17 Ashland Crestview (14-0, 8-0) on Friday in a rematch of a 52-49 loss on Dec. 16 in Olivesburg.
