Western Fisher County residents experience trio of minor quakes Friday

Lightning may not strike twice but earthquakes can add up.

The U.S. Geological Survey on its website reported three quakes Friday in Fisher County, northeast of Hermleigh. Hermleigh is in Scurry County, which is known for minor quakes. There were just inside Fisher County.

At 8:21 p.m. Friday, another quake was recorded - 3.1 magnitude - about 12.5 miles northwest of Stanton. Stanton is between Big Spring and Midland. It was 4.8 miles underground.

These are all rural areas.

The latest was a 3.0 magnitude quake at about 2:57 p.m. 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) from Hermleigh. Depth was about 5.5 miles.

Earlier, at 1:18 p.m. a 3.5 quake was measured in approximately the same area, also at the same depth.

Before that, at 1:58 a.m., a 2.5 magnitude quakes was reported, Depth was reported as 0.0 kilometers.

The survey posts quakes of 2.5 or higher.

There was another quake in Texas, just over 11 miles from Falls City, which is southeast of San Antonio. It registered 2.7.
