Western A Football: Jarrett Wilson MVP; Whitefish lands 8 All-State picks, Columbia Falls 6

Nov. 30—Whitefish had eight All-State picks — three playing both ways — and Columbia Falls had six while Polson's Jarrett Wilson was named offensive MVP on the Western A football honors teams released Tuesday.

Whitefish's Fynn Ridgeway (quarterback and cornerback), Mason Kelch (receiver and safety) and Ty Schwaiger (running back and linebacker) were first-team picks on offense and defense; every first-team all-league pick is also an All-State selection for Class A.

In all, the 11-team Western A chose 22 All-State spots on offense and 25 on defense. Hamilton junior Andrew Burrows, a two-way lineman, was named the defensive MVP.

Wilson, who threw for 2,616 yards and 35 touchdowns and ran for 886 yards and another 17 scores as a senior, was All-State for the second time. Last year he shared the offensive MVP award with Hamilton QB and current Montana Grizzly Tyson Rostad.

Wilson was one of three first-team picks at quarterback, along with Ridgeway of Whitefish (1,866 yards passing, 1,308 rushing and 34 touchdowns combined) and Cody Schweikert of Columbia Falls (2,380 yards passing, 374 rushing and 33 TDs combined).

Wilson's brother Trent Wilson was All-State at both receiver and linebacker; the Pirates, who made the Class A semifinals a second straight season, had two more picks in defensive lineman Lincoln Burrough and linebacker Dawson DuMont.

DuMont is a repeat All-State pick. Burrough is a junior.

Ridgeway was joined on the All-State team by Whitefish teammates Schwaiger and Kai Nash — they were All-State in 2021 as well — as well as Kelch and defensive lineman Montana Cohenour. Kelch is a junior.

Schweikert is a repeat All-State pick for Columbia Falls, at QB and linebacker; kicker Kai Golan, also a junior, was also a repeat pick.

Wildcats Brandon Role (defensive line), Tristan Cranes (offensive line), Justin Windauer (safety) and Jace Hill (receiver) all made All-State; Cranes is another junior.

Libby's Cy Stevenson, Class A's leading rusher in 2022 with 1,323 yards, is the Loggers' lone All-State pick, at both running back and linebacker. Stevenson was All-State in 2021 as well.

Ronan senior safety Caleb Cheff was also All-State.
