Western Springs Sees Small Hike In Virus Cases: County
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Last week, Western Springs saw the lowest rate of increase in coronavirus cases since October, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 763 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 24 from a week earlier, or a 3.2 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 4.2 percent increase.
The number of Western Springs' virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 57.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 51.7 in La Grange Park, 56.8 in Darien, 59.8 in Hinsdale, 65.7 in DuPage County, 66.2 in Elmhurst, 66.6 Clarendon Hills, 71.4 in suburban Cook County, 73.4 in Burr Ridge and 78.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 979,821, up 4.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 16,755 state residents.
Nationally, 20.3 million people have caught the virus, up 7.6 percent from the week before. A total of 349,246 people have died from the virus in the United States.
