Westerville ArtsLine: July schedule features stories, shows and more

July is brimming with opportunities to enjoy theater, visual arts and live music. The centerpiece is to be the Westerville Music & Arts Festival on July 9 and 10, featuring 130 artists, 30 performances, 20 food vendors, a silent auction and youth activities at Heritage Park and Everal Barn.

July calendar

Tuesdays – JC Lunch Break Concerts, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Live music on the brick walk at Java Central Café, 20 S. State St.

Saturdays and Sundays – Uptown Saturday Nights and Sounds of Summer concerts. Live music at City Hall Courtyard, 21 S. State St., and Alum Creek Park North, 221 W. Main St. For listings of performers, dates and times, go to westerville.org/about-westerville/events-calendar.

July 2 – Artists at Hanby House, 1 to 4 p.m. Community Artists of Westerville's Kathryn Smithson and Don Wilkins are to display and discuss their art in the garden at 160 W. Main St.

July 2, 16 and 30 – Art at Saturday's Westerville farmers market, 9 a.m. to noon. Craft station for kids and artist demos are to be at the Arts Council tent, 21 S. State St. behind City Hall.

July 2, 9, 16 and 30 – Uptown Friday Nights, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Live music on the sidewalks is provided by Westerville Uptown Merchants.

July 2, 9, 16, 30 and 31 – Live Music at Java Central Café, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Acts include Frank Hennebert and Steve Stanley, Molly Winters, String Theory, Avalon Nine and Lil’ Red and the Rooster (Sunday 5 to 7 p.m.). Free at 20 S. State St.

July 7, 14, 21 and 28 – Teen Writers Studio, 2 to 3 p.m. Workshops for ages 12 to 18 should provide prompts, themes and activities with poetry, short stories, songwriting, memoirs and humor. Register at westervillelibrary.org.

July 7-10, 14-16 – Otterbein Summer Theatre presents “The Pirates of Penzance” at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Tickets at otterbein.edu/drama.

July 9 and 10 – Community Interactive Mural at Westerville Music & Arts Festival, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Arts Council presents “Honoring Hanby I & II” with mural artist Mary Klie at the children's crafting station.

July 11 – "Pirate Queens": Author Leigh Lewis, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tweens can hear true pirate stories, learn how they navigated before GPS and then make a compass. Register at westervillelibrary.org.

July 19 – Sip & Sketch Art Session: Sweet Summertime Vibes, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Paint with acrylics on canvas at Good Vibes Winery. Register at artscouncilofwesterville.com.

Through Sept. 9 – The Art of Intuition VII. Rotating exhibit and sale features abstract art of David Myers and studio artists at David Myers Art Studio & Gallery.
