Westerville ArtsLine: Writing contest accepting original works for judging and publication

Writers of all ages are invited to channel their imagination, share their talents and become a published author by entering the 17th-annual Celebrate the Arts Writing Contest.

Arts Council of Westerville and Westerville Public Library are welcoming submissions of original writing starting Jan. 2. Submit writings to artscouncilwesterville@gmail.com.

January arts events

Art at Java Gallery – Works by Community Artists of Westerville: Oil paintings, watercolor, pencil and photography by a dozen artists are on display and for sale at 20 S. State St.

Weekends – Live Music at Java Central Café, 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Acts include Long Tall Deb and Colin John (Jan. 7); String Theory (Jan. 14); Steven Stanley (Jan. 21); Lil’ Red and The Rooster (Jan. 22, 5-7 p.m.); and Dave Hawkins (Jan. 28). Free at 20 S. State St.

Jan. 2 – Teen Art Café, 2 to 4 p.m. Ages 12 to 18 can drop by and create art. All supplies are provided at Westerville Public Library, 126 S. State St.

Jan. 3, 17 & 31 – Westerville Writers Group, 7 p.m. Writers in any genre are welcome to the biweekly meetups at Westerville Public Library Study Room Purple. Email devon.wells@gmail.com for details.

Jan. 6 – Color Me Calm, 1 to 2 p.m. Color with Westerville Library staff. Senior center membership is required. Westerville Community Center, 350 N. Cleveland Ave.

Jan. 8 – Auditions: “The Gods of Comedy.” 6:30 p.m. registration.; 7 p.m. auditions begin at Curtain Players Theatre, 5691 Harlem Road, Galena.

Jan. 13-31 – Studio Artists' Showcase: Works by artists privately mentored by David Myers are featured at David Myers Art Studio & Gallery, davidmyersart.com/artist-services.

Jan. 14 – It’s All Been Done Radio Hour: “Life With a Voice Actor,” 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, Boxland Media, 6665 Huntley Road, Suite K.

Jan. 16 – Arts Council of Westerville general meeting, 5:30 p.m. Attend at Blair IT, 653 McCorkle Blvd., Suite L.

Jan. 17 – Sip & Sketch Art Session, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Create colorful birch trees at Good Vibes Winery, 2 S. State St. Registration at artscouncilofwesterville.com.

Jan. 19 - Feb. 23 – You're a Trip: Physical Comedy Class, 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Kids ages 8 to 12 will use theater games and improvisation to create giggles. Location is Uptown Westerville. Information can be found at goodmedicineproductions.org.

Jan. 19 – Mixtape: Landscape by Jonathan Johnson. Public reception 5 to 7 p.m. at Miller Gallery, 33 Collegeview Road.

Jan. 21 – Tunes & Tales: Kate and the Beanstalk, 10-10:30 a.m. and 11-11:30 a.m. Performed by Westerville Symphony for families. Register at westervillelibrary.org.

Jan. 25 – WACKY Art Workshop for Kids, 6 to 8 p.m. Ages 6-11 will learn about fiber arts with weaving. Register at artscouncilofwesterville.com.

Jan. 26 – Acts of Concentration and Graphite Grey Groundings. Exhibit by Sweden-based artist Cecilia Cissi Hultman. Public reception 4 to 6 p.m. at the Frank Museum of Art, 39 S. Vine St.
