Westerville man sentenced to five life sentences for raping minor over three years

A judge's gavel rests on a book of law.

A Westerville resident and former Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction employee was sentenced Tuesday to five life sentences plus 80 years in prison after he was found guilty by a jury on multiple counts of rape and gross sexual imposition of a minor.

Muata Fisher, 50, of Westerville was sentenced by visiting Judge Daniel Hogan after a Delaware County jury found Fisher guilty after four days of testimony from 11 witnesses. Hogan designated Fisher as a tier III sex offender.

According to the indictment, the victim was younger than 13 years old.

Fisher, who was a former ODRC employee, abused his victim for over three years, court records indicate. His sexual abuse became known after the victim confided in a friend at school and a teacher began asking questions.

Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa A. Schiffel said in a release that Fisher will “no longer be able to prey on the young and innocent thanks to the strength of our victim and a caring and astute teacher.”
