WBZ TV's Anna Meiler reports.
- Well, police cruiser involved in a crash in Westminster. Anna Meilier reports from the scene with the latest.
ANNA MEILIER: The police chief says the officer was trying to catch up to a speeding driver when he lost control and flipped his cruiser on it's side. This happened just before 1:00 o'clock this morning. The officer was driving North on Route 1-40 when he spotted a driver speeding on the southbound side going more than 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. Shortly after the officer turned around to catch up to the driver, the slippery road conditions caused him to hit a snowbank, which flipped the cruiser on its side.
The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Firefighters, local and state police responded. Crews were able to turn the cruiser upright, and tow it away.
CHIEF RALPH LEBLANC: The vehicle is probably going to be a total loss. There was significant damage to the vehicle. Thank goodness he was wearing a seat belt like he should have, and that probably prevented much of the injuries.
ANNA MEILIER: The chief says the officer has been released from the hospital. The speeding driver was never pulled over. Massachusetts State Police are now investigating. Reporting in Westminster, Anna Meilier, CBSN Boston.
