Westville approves new four-year teacher contract after year of bargaining

WESTVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Westville Teacher’s Association has approved a contract until 2027 after more than a year of negotiations.

According to a Facebook post from the district, the teacher’s association unanimously voted to ratify their contract last week. The Board of Education also unanimously approved the contract.

The teachers have been at the bargaining table since Jan. 2023, and have been working without a contract since June.

The contract includes a 21-37% pay increase for the teachers over the course of four years, single-coverage health insurance paid by the district, and expanded bereavement, vacation time and sick time.

“Westville is a great community with a school district with a long history of strong board leadership and an engaged labor union,” part of the post reads. “The future of the district is bright as evidenced in this contract from the strength of both sides.”

The contract will last until June 2027.

WEA represents 150 teachers and support staff working in the school district. More than 1,100 students attend Westville schools, according to the Illinois Educator Association.
