Wet weekend weather disrupts high school championship games across Massachusetts

Parents of high school student-athletes may want to double-check their Father’s Day plans.

With heavy rains and thunderstorms expected to swoop in this weekend, several high school championship games initially scheduled for Saturday will now take place on Sunday.

With some games taking place as far west as Amherst, it may be wise for families to check their hotel reservations or change their travel plans.

Below is the new schedule of games for Sunday, June 17:

BASEBALL

At Polar Park, Worcester

  • DIVISION 5: Bourne HS vs. Hopkins Academy, 12 p.m.

  • DIVISION 4: Seekonk HS vs. Abington HS, 3 p.m.

  • DIVISION 1: Franklin HS vs. Taunton HS, 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

At Sortino Field, UMass (Amherst)

  • DIVISION 1: Central Catholic HS vs. Taunton HS, 12 p.m.

  • DIVISION 2: Tewksbury HS vs. Burlington HS, 2:30 p.m.

  • DIVISION 3: Norton HS vs. Middleborough HS, 5 p.m. at Worcester State

  • DIVISION 4: Joseph Case HS vs. Hampshire Reg. HS, 5 p.m. (resumption of game suspended in top of 2nd inning, tied 0-0)

LACROSSE

at MacDowell Field, Babson College (Wellesley)

  • DIVISION 2 GIRLS: Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) vs. Wayland HS, 10 a.m.

  • DIVISION 1 GIRLS: Lincoln-Sudbury HS vs. Westwood HS, 12 p.m.

Although there may be occasional breaks from the downpours, Boston 25 meteorologist Shiri Spear says the rain won’t completely taper off until late Saturday night.

While Sunday won’t be all sunshine, showers will be lighter and more scattered throughout the day.
