New Wethersfield jr./sr. high school principal isn't new to Kewanee
Wethersfield junior and senior high school students will be met by a new principal when they return from summer vacation Aug. 17.
Tyler Nichols was hired to fill the position by the Wethersfield Board of Education at its July 14 meeting.

Nichols, a native of Macomb, will make the move to Wethersfield after serving as a special education teacher, dean of students and head football coach in the Galva School District during the 2021-22 school year.
Nichols has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Ind. He served his administrative internship at Kewanee High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and a K-12 endorsement in Physical Education from Western Illinois University in 2008.
He began his teaching career in 2009 as a P.E. teacher at Kewanee High School, and from 2019 to 2021 was a special education teacher at Princeton High School. While at Princeton he also served as assistant football coach. He served as head baseball coach at Kewanee High School in 2013-14, and as head football coach at KHS from 2013-18.
“I’m excited to get going this fall and meeting the kids,” Nichols told the board.

The board also:
Accepted a retirement letter from elementary teacher Kelly Camey effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Accepted a resignation letter from Shelley Church as high school Spanish teacher.
Accepted a resignation letter from Shannon Webster as high school special education teacher.
Approved the employment of Adriana Garcia as high school Spanish teacher.
Approved the employment of Taryn DeClercq as school nurse.
Approved the employment of Nicole Tye as assistant cross country coach.
Online registration for the 2022-23 school year began July 13. Walk-in registration will he held Wednesday, July 20, from 1 to 6 p.m. Teachers will report for in-service on Monday, Aug. 15 and Tuesday, Aug. 16. The first day of student attendance will be Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a 1:45 p.m. dismissal schedule through Friday, Aug. 26.
