Weyers Cave home damaged in fire, no injuries reported

WEYERS CAVE — Multiple agencies responded to a fire Friday morning at a Weyers Cave home.

Chief Greg Schacht of Augusta County Fire-Rescue said the fire was called in shortly after 10:30 a.m. at 982 Dices Spring Road, less than a half-mile from the Weyers Cave Volunteer Fire Company.

Schacht said the fire heavily damaged the second floor of the two-story home. "There's some smoke and water damage on the first floor, and we did have to open some of the exterior walls to gain access to the fire," he said at the scene.

Schacht said nobody was home at the time the fire started, and said he was unsure how many people were displaced by the blaze.

"We have not made contact with the owners yet," he said.

Firefighters were told a dog might have been inside the home, but a search did not turn up the canine, according to Schacht.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Firefighters from Weyers Cave, Rockingham County, Bridgewater, New Hope and Grottoes also responded to the scene.
