Weymouth church will hold Little Christmas after two cancellations

WEYMOUTH — Little Christmas in Jackson Square will finally take place this Sunday, Feb. 4, after two cancellations due to snow and then a flood in East Weymouth Congregational Church.

If snow were one of the 10 plagues, this could be a very different story.

A small concert that started in 1999 with one choir and two soloists, Little Christmas in Jackson Square will celebrate its 25th year Sunday with an expanded lineup of performers. The concert will raise money for the Weymouth Food Pantry.

The concert is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at East Weymouth Congregational Church, 1320 Commercial St.

Admission is free, but a donation of $20 is suggested to support the Weymouth Food Pantry. The concert has raised about $30,000 for the nonprofit since 2003.

In Christian traditions, Epiphany, also known as Little Christmas and Three Kings’ Day, marks the revealing of the Christ Child to the non-Jewish world. It was celebrated Jan. 6, but the concert was postponed due to snow. It was originally rescheduled for Jan. 21, but then there was a flood in the church building.

The program will include traditional and contemporary Christmas and Epiphany music, plus a singalong.

This year’s soloists are Peter S. Adams, known locally for his performances at The Company Theatre in Norwell; singer-songwriter Robert Caldeira Jr.; and Emma DeRubeis.

The North River Brass Quintet and a choir of singers from Catholic Weymouth, Norwell United Church of Christ and East Weymouth Congregational Church will also perform.
