WFISD official honored with Yellow Rose of Texas Award

Correction: An earlier version of this online article incorrectly referred to the 2019 recipient of the Yellow Rose of Texas Award in Wichita Falls. WFISD Trustee Elizabeth Yeager received the award then. We apologize for any confusion.

Debbie Dipprey of Wichita Falls ISD was honored with the prestigious Yellow Rose of Texas Award from Gov. Greg Abbott and the Disabled American Veterans on Monday at the Education Center, according to a WFISD Facebook page post.

The award, given through the Governor's Office, recognizes women for significant contributions to their communities and the state in the preservation of Texans' history, current accomplishments and the building of their future.

The Yellow Rose of Texas Award is the highest award bestowed on women by the governor.

Dipprey, director of school administration, received the award Monday during a celebration attended by local officials, WFISD staff, DAV members and others. Wichita Falls Mayor Stephen Santellana presented her with a city proclamation for Debbie Dipprey Day.

Dipprey has been working for WFISD since 1986. She was at Wichita Falls High School for 30 years, serving as a teacher, magnet coordinator, administrative intern, assistant principal and principal.

She served for the last six years as director of secondary curriculum, recently taking on the role of school administration director.

Dipprey also guided the district beginning April 5 during a difficult time as acting superintendent and then later interim superintendent until Superintendent Donny Lee was hired July 5.
