“Funny Woman,” a new British drama series based on Nick Hornby’s best-selling novel, starts at 10 p.m., Sunday, on WGCU PBS.

Starring Gemma Arterton and written by Morwenna Banks, “Funny Woman” co-stars Rupert Everett (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”), David Threlfall (“Shameless”) and Tom Bateman (“Based on a True Story”).

The six-part series is based on Hornby’s novel, “Funny Girl,” and follows Barbara Parker (played by Arterton), a small-town beauty queen who decides to swap her pageant life for comedy television in 1960s London.

After landing a TV show audition, Barbara finds that being a woman in a largely male environment has its own challenges. As she “finds her funny” voice, Barbara re-defines the prevailing attitude toward funny women while on a mission to reinvent herself.

The comedy/drama also will stream on PBS.org, the PBS App, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.

Paint like Bob Ross

Led by local Certified Ross Instructor Mathew Halstead, participants will experience “the joy of painting” while creating their own Bob Ross classic to keep.

Limited seating is available at $12 per person.

The event will be held in the WGCU TV studio and light refreshments will be served at 4 p.m. Painting will begin promptly at 4:30.
