WH board moving forward with plan for new K-5 building

MONROE TOWNSHIP − The West Holmes Board of Education voted to move forward with its plan to construct a new elementary building for the West Holmes Local School District.

The board approved the resolution to reallocate 2.9 mills of its 4.5-mill levy within the10-mill limitation to a permanent improvement fund for permanent improvements, following the required public hearing held Thursday, Sept. 14, and include it on the revised tax budget.

The board gave its approval to revise the tax budget to permanently stop collection in 2024 (tax year 2023) on the $803,000 emergency levy currently collecting at 1.35 mills. The revision also permanently stops collection in 2024 (tax year 2023) on the $422,562 emergency levy currently collecting at .71 mills.

This reallocation will enable the district to construct the needed new building without raising taxes, Treasurer Jamie Mullet explained at last month's meeting.

The 2024 annual tax bill will decrease $25 per $100,000 in property value if no improvements/buildings were added to property in 2023, she said.
